Hydrogel Desensitiser PDF Print E-mail

A new approach to the treatment of sensitivity

A low viscosity liquid which penetrates exposed dentinal tubules by capillary action. Light curing causes formation of a unique gel which swells when moist and provides a long- term block.

Instantly effective on any sensitive teeth or exposed dentine adjacent to your work area.

INDICATIONS

Hydrogel is a light-curable glutaraldehyde-free system for blocking dentinal tubules. It is suitable for treating hypersensitivity caused by exposed dentinal tubules along the gum lines. It is NOT suitable for use under composite restorations or in conjunction with restorative bonding systems.

DESCRIPTION

Hydrogel penetrates the ends of exposed dentinal tubules by capillary action. The liquid taken up by the tubules is not prone to oxygen inhibition and is polymerised by blue light activation to a biocompatible Hydrogel that plugs the tubules. Hydrogel cures to a soft gel that expands when moist to provide a secure, long-term plug. The plug prevents the invasion of bacteria and large-scale fluid flow in the tubule thereby eliminating the main cause of tooth sensitivity.

At the surface of the tubules blocked with Hydrogel there will be a surface layer of oxygen inhibited material that washes away easily when the mouth is rinsed. Any remaining Hydrogel at the surface will brush off . The Hydrogel “plugs” in the dentinal tubules will remain indefi nitely.

Hydrogel can also be used to seal gaps that develop between a restorative material and the tooth structure. The very low viscosity of Hydrogel allows easier penetration of the gap than more conventional resin-based sealants.

INSTRUCTIONS

Preparation: Lightly dry the surface of the exposed dentine with an air gun or gently rub with a dry swab to remove moisture. Depending on the individual circumstances, you may find it helpful to use a strong blast of clean, dry air to remove fluid from the tubules before immediately sealing them with Hydrogel.

Placement: Apply Hydrogel desensitiser to the sensitive area and keep brushing over the exposed surface for 15 seconds to ensure that the liquid covers and penetrates all exposed tubules.

Curing: Cure for 20 seconds. Ensure full curing by curing one area at a time rather than moving the light from side to side over the total area.

Rinse: Ask the patient to rinse his/her mouth with water.

CAUTION

Hydrogel contains acrylic resins. A small percentage of the population is known to have an allergic response to acrylic resins. To reduce the risk of allergic responses, minimise exposure to these materials. In particular, exposure to uncured resin should be avoided. Use of protective gloves and a no-touch technique is recommended. If the resin contacts the skin, wash immediately with soap and water.

STORAGE

Store below 25°C (77°F) and out of intense light.
